Curetis and Heraeus Medical Collaborate on the Development of New Unyvero™ Diagnostic Cartridge
Joint development of cartridge for orthopaedics, wound and surgery infections
Curetis AG and Heraeus Medical GmbH have signed a collaboration agreement to jointly develop a novel Unyvero™ cartridge for the detection of pathogens and antibiotic resistances in implant & tissue infections (ITI). One key application area will be in orthopaedics, e.g. to diagnose infections after knee and hip replacement surgeries.

South Africa: PALACOS® sales and marketing activities directly via Heraeus (as of 24th June 2012)
From 24th June 2012, PALACOS® sales and marketing activities in South Africa will enter a new phase. Following the previous cooperation with Smith&Nephew as distribution partner, the sales operations of the Gold Standard cement will now be transferred into the hands of its manufacturer and developer, Heraeus.

“Treatment of a chronic recurrent fistulized tibial osteomyelitis: administration of a novel antibiotic-loaded bone substitute combined with a pedicular muscle flap sealing”
Summary:
Persistent osteomyelitis is a severe and challenging problem in bone surgery. We describe a surgical intervention in a young adult which combines a bone debridement process, a plastic muscle flap sealing and the administration of a novel bone substitution material with anti-infective properties.

The name of the Heraeus‘ primary bone cement is changing from PALAMED® to PALACOS® MV (medium viscosity).
The name change will be done to increase product transparency for our customers. In the future all bone cements for primary arthroplasty will be known by the name PALACOS®, followed by a suffix indicating the viscosity. All cements are based on the same proven ingredients and are available with the addition of Gentamicin as well.
(Exceptions: In Spain, Greece, Italy and Poland the product name will remain unchanged).
