YARDLEY, Pennsylvania, July 12, 2023- Heraeus Medical, a global leader in joint fixation and infection management, today announced that it will continue sponsorship of its popular and accredited onsite continuing education program,  “Why Bone Cement Matters to Your Patient Outcomes" , through 2023-2024.

The Heraeus Medical continuing education program was designed and developed by Pfiedler Education, a division of AORN and one of the leading providers of medical and nursing education. “Why Bone Cement Matters to Your Patient Outcomes” is accredited for 2.0 contact hours by both the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), an independent healthcare credentialing organization and the California Board of Registered Nursing.

The no-cost, hour-long education takes place on-site and is intended for registered nurses, surgical technologists, or other healthcare professionals who want to gain knowledge and skills in the different techniques involved in the application of bone cement. Attendees gain a better understanding of cement properties, cementing best practices and resulting changes in patient outcomes. At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the varying viscosities of, and components that make up, bone cement.
  • Discuss various bone cement application techniques within total knee arthroplasty and total hip arthroplasty.
  • Review how antibiotic loaded bone cement can complement the surgeon’s treatment preferences.
  • Describe best practices with use of bone cements and cementing technique to improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of cements importance to the operative success in total joint arthroplasty.

The first Heraeus Medical-sponsored event took place in June of 2022. All totaled, 30 programs were conducted at hospitals across the United States in the second half of 2022. Nearly 900 orthopedic healthcare professionals attended these events in 2022, including RN’s, surgical techs and OR staff. Heraeus Medical expects to exceed the number of 2022 on-site events and reach over 1,500 RNs and techs in 2023.

According to Scott Druhot, Vice President of Marketing and Education for Heraeus Medical US, the program was conceived to help make it easier for nurses and surgical techs to gain important insights on cementing techniques. He said, “Fulfilling continuing education requirements can be costly and time-consuming for nurses and technicians. By partnering with a trusted provider like Pfiedler Education, this program removes the costs, makes it convenient and gives attendees relevant knowledge that can produce better patient outcomes.”

Hospitals, healthcare facilities and orthopedic practices interested in hosting a continuing education program can contact their local Heraeus Medical representative or visit our detail page for more information.
