YARDLEY, Pennsylvania, January 16, 2025 – Heraeus Medical, a global leader in joint fixation and infection management, today announced the launch of an innovative educational initiative aimed at the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. The program is designed for residents, fellows, and early-career surgeons and offers transformative learning opportunities ranging from intimate, hands-on training sessions to more significant regional educational events.
This new and exciting Graduate Medical Education (GME) program builds on the success of Heraeus Medical's previously accredited course for nurses and surgical technicians, "Why Bone Cement Matters to Your Patient Outcomes." Launched in June 2022, the nurse and surgical tech course trained over 3,550 healthcare professionals through 105 on-site events. The new GME program, focusing on Resident, Fellows, and Surgeons, expands upon this success with several key offerings that will enhance surgeons' surgical proficiency and deepen expertise in orthopedic care:
Scott Druhot, VP and Head of Marketing and Education for Heraeus Medical USA, emphasized the importance of providing essential educational training early in a surgeon's career. He said, "Orthopedic surgeons entering the field face a steep learning curve. By equipping them with the right knowledge and skills at this formative stage, we can help them achieve better patient outcomes. This program is a significant milestone in advancing the education of tomorrow's orthopedic surgeons."
Dr. Derek F. Amanatullah, M.D., Ph.D., an orthopedic surgeon at Stanford Medical, added, "The best joint replacement surgeons will need to look beyond traditional education to master infection management, the leading cause of implant failure post-surgery. As the demand for advanced treatments, such as patient specific spacer strategies and complex revision surgeries, continues to grow, education must focus on these complex procedures, especially debridement, extraction, and re-implantation."
Andrew Williamson, President of Heraeus Medical, reaffirmed the company's commitment to advancing professional education. He said, "This program plays a key role in our mission to drive evidence-based practice using state of the art techniques and technologies, ensuring we equip the next generation of surgeons to succeed and lead in their field."
