New Digital Format from Heraeus Medical Provides a Compact Overview of Clinical Evidence for Heraeus Medical Bone Cement at a Glance

Corporate

Wehrheim, November 15th, 2024 – For trauma and orthopaedic consultants who want to quickly and easily learn more about the evidence base for dual-antibiotic loaded bone cement (DALBC) in the treatment of femoral neck fractures, Heraeus Medical offers a new digital overview format of relevant studies on this topic.

In the new format “Clinical Evidence Overview” from Heraeus Medical relevant studies related to a clinical indication associated with Heraeus Medical products used in arthroplasty procedures and infection management are provided in a compact overview. Interested users can expect a neutral, scientifically based summary of clinical evidence for a specific indication.

In this web-based format, essential points from the studies are summarised. Both primary and secondary outcomes of the studies are shown. Short texts and graphical preparations help for a better visualization of the study content and to quickly take up the information and results. The navigational structure allows users to grasp the contents of each study at a glance and access the information with just a few clicks.

In the Clinical Evidence Overview “Fractured Neck of Femur,” the clinical evidence of dual antibiotic-loaded bone cement (DALBC) is compared to bone cement with a single antibiotic (SALBC) in the indication of proximal femoral neck fracture in high-risk patients. The following studies were considered:

  • Sprowson et al. (2016): The use of high-dose dual-impregnated antibiotic-laden cement with hemiarthroplasty for the treatment of a fracture of the hip: The fractured hip infection trial
  • Tyas et al. (2018): Antibiotic resistance profiles of deep surgical site infections in hip hemiarthroplasty; comparing low dose single antibiotic versus high dose dual antibiotic impregnated cement
  • Savage et al. (2019): Arthroplasty infection rates in fractured neck of femur: single versus dual antibiotic cement
  • Agni et al. (2023): High-dose dual-antibiotic loaded cement for hip hemiarthroplasty in the UK (WHiTE 8): a randomised controlled trial
